DFWiRadio had the pleasure of attending the Southwest Brunch at the Addison Conference and Theatre Center on Saturday, June 24, 2017, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. It was a food filled event, from cooking classes with Chef Robbie Butts out of Atlanta, Georgia, to tasting Mrs. Irma’s Jamaican food, "Island Cuisine", out of Terrell, Texas, and scrumptious chicken and waffles with owner Comfort Morris of “Comfort Cooks” which can be found right here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Comfort expressed, “I have been cooking for years, it’s in my blood. I love to cook.” She caters to all of the Dallas area, and willingly travels to cater any event. She says she specializes in all foods, Jamaican, Mexican, African, Vegetarian, and scrumptious desserts.
This event was hosted by “Korbel,” who had champagne ready with champagne mixed drinks, keeping their guest line long all afternoon. Music was in the air, and guests enjoyed live jams by the DJ. "Brandon does Dallas" gave an exclusive iPhone and Android class on professional video recording.
DFWiRadio’s Street Team member’s, Sharunda Clark, Ashley Humphries, and Raquel Jones interviewed the chefs, business owners, representatives, and guests at the event. We checked out Chef Butts’s cooking class where he demonstrated, how to make his delicious “Drunken French Toast.”
We stayed for the “Mini Mixology" class with "Best Drinks Ever" @bestdrinksever, and taste tested some of their specialty drinks. We spoke to the lovebird duo about their growing business venture, and their upcoming opening event on, July 2017.
We spoke with Ivan of "FC Dallas Soccer Team" out of Frisco, and he told us about the wonderful opportunities that the team has from the youth community and encourages parents to get their children involved.
Sparkling Ice, a company based out of Washington, was in the place keeping guests hydrated, handing out cases of the various flavors of their Sparkling Ice. We had the opportunity to interview Kasey Godwin of Sparkling Ice and he told us about how the product is health conscious, as it has 0 carbs, 0 calories, 0 perservatives, caffeine free, and no sugar. He says, it only contains water, juice, and Sucralose.
DFWiRadio’s, Sharunda, interviewed Nancy with "High Brew Coffee," a company based out of Austin, Texas that has been in business for about 4 years now. Nancy said that the company’s cold-brewed low acidic coffee comes in 6 different flavors. She says, “They all have less than 120 calories and they’re all delicious!” Sharunda tested their Salted Carmel flavor coffee with an impressed smile and response of, “Amazing!”
As we walked around with our cameras towards the end of the event, there was hardly any food left. Guests enjoyed the food and drink samples while good vibrations were in the air. The delightful smell of seasonings, herbs, and spices from the soul filled foods prepared by creative cooking masters carried a mouthwatering aroma alluring guests as they walked throughout the center, mingling, testing, and observing the displays.
It was one grand, successful, and filling event! Even though business owners and chefs showcased their own unique tasty dishes, it was clear that everyone worked together to organize, prepare, and fill the guests with food from the soul.
